Internet as a social change?! Or, Website for your future???

Marketa Kristova, thirty-eight year old sociologist and webmaster in Prague, Czech Republic. In 1994 it was interesting for her the reason of few women in IT sector in her country, so, she started to research this issue till 2008. But in 2007 she created a website named “Zkus IT” (“Try IT”) about women involved in IT. This was the pioneer web-site to break up stereotypes like, IT is only for men.  Kristova says that  she uses Internet as a social change. This topic also was her PhD thesis. During her research, she found out that in a period between 1994 and 2007, there the number of women in IT decreased. For instance, there were 22.2 percent women in 1994 in IT, but in 2007, 12,2 percent of employees in IT were women – around 4.000 worked as programmers and 8.000 as technical support. At that year, 91.07 percent of people working in IT were men. Kristova interested in İnternet in 1990th when her friend encouraged her to work in this area. Then she became to work for Czech press agency. After this her found herself as a worker for … But from 2006 to 2007 she was a trainer for gender gap project of Gender Studies along with Network Mother’s Center in Czech Republic. She taught women how to create website. Today Kristova updates her website not every day, but she has 100 visits per day. But she has future plans for this website. She wants more people-students, activists to join to her and to make this website the first one.
